Dress, Food, Rings . . .

Posted April 28 2008

Well, we had another crazy weekend a little while ago; we flew to Dallas again for another round of meetings. I'll admit I was kinda freaking out a bit about the dress. I knew it was going to get in late, but I was okay with that as long as they could tell me it would be in by a certain time (since I had to fly in to get fitted.) But they just couldn't seem to get their story straight: first it was going to get in on Monday, then it hadn't shipped it at all, then it was getting shipped on Friday, and finally they were going to pick it up at the UPS store on Tuesday. So of course, I didn't really believe the dress was actually there until I put it on Saturday morning. But it looked wonderful! I had found just the right shoes to go with it, and the veil we bought off eBay for $50. So all I have to find is some jewelry to go with it. Beth and Mom were there with me, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks guys!
Then that day later we went to Reflections for the menu tasting. Jason (the executive chef) was really great. They were setting up for a wedding that night, but he made the four of us appetizers, salad, steak, chicken and two sides. And everything was absolutely delicious! He gave us the options for the meal we wanted to serve, and like eight pages of dishes they can make. I have no idea how we're going to decide what to serve, but I know it will be good.
We were then supposed to meet with the videographer, but he wasn't able to make it because he had family in town. But that night we went out to dinner with Steve (a friend of Kevin's), his wife Ashley and their son Tate. It was nice going out with another young couple with a toddler; it kinda gave me an idea of where Kevin and I may be in a few years. And they had lots of great advice for us!
And then to finish off the weekend, we went back to Robbins Bros. on Sunday to pick up my ring and get it sized. I went back and forth between a few styles, but I ended up going with what I had originally picked. And I'm really glad I decided on a solitaire wrap instead of a second band; together it looks like one complete design.
So hopefully, Kevin and I won't need to go back to Dallas until the wedding weekend. My parents are coming in this weekend to see the show, and on Sunday Beth and Ryan are throwing us a party at their place. Lots more fun stuff still to come!

The Wedding Shower

Posted April 8, 2008

Wow, what a wonderful time! Kevin and I were in Dallas two weekends ago, and boy were we busy. We flew in Friday night, and first thing on Saturday we went to the cake tasting with Cakes Amore. The bride's cake with have square tiers and nice, simple design work done in green. The groom's cake is going to be really neat. I won't say anything else; I want it to be a surprise! (I will say that Kevin basically designed it.) After that, Kevin's parents, Andrea and Dan, Kevin and I went to visit Reflections (so they could all see it before July ;-). They all said it was a really great place; the pictures on their website really don't do it justice. Then is was off to the shower, being held at my maid of honor house in The Colony. We had such a great time there. There was a ton of really great food, and even a chocolate fondue fountain! And I could not believe how many gifts there were! I think Beth, Kevin and I sat for an hour opening everything. Many thanks to everyone: Beth Alme, her parents Cathy and Don, Mom, Dad, Andrea, Dan, and everyone who sent their best wishes!
And then on Sunday, we went to Robbins Bros. to get the rings. We were able to take Kevin's ring home with us, and mine they ordered from another store, and we'll pick it up when we come in later in April.
Okay, I have to admit, it was really exciting buying the rings. It's really starting to hit me that I'm about to be married in 3 months. 3 months. I'm starting to feel that nervous/anxious/excited/giddy feeling that I've been reading about in all those bridal magizines. But also a little bit of sadness. I'm in rehearsals for the next LCT show, Same Time, Next Year, and I realized the other day that it will be my last show as a Bean. I'm still not sure what to feel about that.

Yea! It's Spring!

Ahh, it's finally starting to get a bit warmer here on the South Plains. But along with that comes the wind, the dust, and crazy-ass freak storms that flood the TTU campus. Oh well; I'd rather have that than it being 30 degrees and pitch black when I leave for work. Anyways, just under 4 months to go! The wedding shower is next Saturday at my MOH's house in The Colony, and I'm really excited to get to see some friends and family in Dallas. And that morning we're going to the cake tasting at Cakes Amore and hopefully a quick visit to Reflections. Then Sunday, it's off to Robbins Bros. to order the rings. I think that's when it will finally start to get really real for me.
We also ordered and got the invitations this last month. It took a lot of research to find something that was practical, modern, and fit well with the colors I wanted to use, but I finally decided on a design called Melody of Mocha from InvitationConsultants.com.
Well, I guess that's about all for right now. Kevin's getting back from his geek conference in Las Vegas today, and he's going to a CCNA certification boot camp in early April. The dress is getting in two weeks later than what I was told, which irks me a bit, but hopefully we can work it out so that the Reflections tasting is the same weekend I have to go get my first fitting. Other than that, things are moving along quite nicely.

It's Almost Over

Okay, just when I was typing the date for this posting, I realized that we have exactly 5 months to go. Yikes. And I admit I haven't done a whole lot since the last post. But in my defense, both Kevin and I have been really busy. We're coming up on the third and final weekend of The Pillowman, and while we've both had a great experience with this show, we're ready to have our lives back. Kevin's parents and my parents were in last weekend to see it, and we had a great time with them. My MOH Beth and her boyfriend Brian are coming in on Thursday to see the show too.
So my goal for next week is to get the invitations ordered. I've got it narrowed down to a few that I like and aren't disgustingly expensive, but I want to make sure Kevin likes them too.
The date for the bridal shower also got set: Saturday, March 29. I also booked the cake tasting for that morning, and Sunday we'll go and order the rings. Slowly but surely, it'll all get done.

Yea, It's Been Awhile.

Okay, I know it's been a long time since I posted anything. But don't worry, things are getting done. Okay, so the date's set: Sunday, July 13, 2008. Yea, that's less than six months for those of you counting. But it's okay, we've got a lot of the big stuff out of the way. The site for both the ceremony and the reception will be Reflections on Spring Creek in Plano, TX. It's really beautiful and the people there are very nice; check it out. Our officiant is Marty Younkin, from Love Notes Weddings. Every vendor we talked to raved about how nice and personable he is, and how he sets such a wonderful tone and atmosphere for the whole event.
We also got registered at Target, Kohl's, and Bed, Bath & Beyond. I won't lie: it was a lot of fun walking around stores and scanning stuff I wanted. I know we probably won't get everything on those lists, but you never know unless you put it on there.
We've also booked a florist, a photographer, and a bakery. So what's left is a videographer, invitations, and reception music (not sure how we're going to do that.) Not too bad; it's definitely possible. But some things may have to wait until The Pillowman opens.

So, When Is This Gonna Happen?

Posted October 17, 2007

Okay, so everyone wants to know when and where this wedding is gonna take place. Well, we have decided to choose a site in the Dallas area. This is for several reasons: most of our family will be flying in and Dallas is easy to get to, and the Dallas area offers more choices in vendors. Plus my parents and my maid of honor are in Dallas, so they will be able to do a great deal of investigating into vendors to help me out. As for date, it will be during the month of July, 2008. Right now we are staying flexible with an exact date so that when we find a site we love, we can book it without worrying about having to move a set date. Also, I have a general question for everyone reading this: in order to help stretch our budget and make sure everyone has a good time, we are considering either a Friday night, Saturday afternoon, or Sunday afternoon ceremony. Does anyone have any serious issues with coming to town Thursday or leaving town on Monday? Please let us know if taking any time off of work isn’t possible for you.
That’s about it for now. My mom and I have a few sites in mind, and her and my maid of honor are asking around for recommendations on vendors. So here is the first of what I’m sure will become a long list of thank you’s: Mom and Beth, I don’t know what I’d do without you; thank you in advance for everything you are doing and will do for Kevin and I. I love you!

First Things First . . .

Posted October 12, 2007

Well, it seems like the word has spread fairly well already, but I’ll go ahead and say it again anyway: Kevin and I are engaged! I must admit, I thought that something like this might be coming, but last Friday after work was really unexpected! So of course, I’ll tell you all about it . . .
I had actually gotten home from work a little early and was just finished with scrubbing down the kitchen. Kevin got home from work and asked me to close my eyes. He retrieved something from his car, placed it on the coffee table. It was a large box wrapped as a present. I start to open it and realize it’s a box for a KitchenAid stand mixer, red to be precise. And I thought to myself, “Oh no, my mom is going to be so upset! I’m not supposed to get one of these until I get married!” Kevin tells me to go ahead and open the box, and inside there’s a bouquet of roses and a note that says “Sorry! This one is only on loan. But don’t worry . . . you’ll get one soon enough . . . Love, Kevin.” So I’m standing in front of the couch wondering what in the world all of this is about, and I turn to Kevin and he’s already pulling the box out of his pocket and getting down on one knee. Now, he’ll tell you I fell over, but I really just kinda half sat/half flopped on the couch in shock. And he didn’t even get the question out before I was on the ground clutching him and sobbing my eyes out. Somewhere in there he actually asked me to marry him, which I of course answered yes.
After much kissing, crying, and hugging, I finally calmed down and he was able to actually put the ring on my finger. It’s a perfect fit by the way (thank you Beth!), and it’s just beautiful. We’ll take some more pictures and post them for everyone to see.
Everyone stay tuned for more updates as we start to make some decisions and work toward pulling this thing off!
